Accra, Sept. 04, GNA - The Volta Region Students' Association-Ghana (VORSAG) on Saturday launched an appeal for funds to support its annual vacation-teaching programme for basic schools and other educational activities in the region. The Association has, therefore, appealed to individuals, organisations, the Volta Regional Administration, the Volta Regional Education office, Members of Parliament from the Region, to support the initiative.
Launching the Fund in Accra, Mr Vincent Adzaglie, the President of the VORSAG, said the initiative was taken following concerns expressed by individuals and groups about the falling standard of education in the region. He said: "Every year many students express the willingness to be part of the annual exercise but our budget is unable to cater for all of them, 'Mr Adzaglie said.
Mr Adzaglie said the Association had opened an account number 1171060014909 with the Ghana Commercial Bank, Liberty House Branch to enable individuals and organisations to donate to the fund. He said VORSAG had also planned a "Home Coming Summit" scheduled to take place on 27th October to 2nd November, 2003 in Ho, to address the decline in education and unemployment problems in the region. VORSAG a voluntary, non-political association of students in the various tertiary institutions from the Volta Region, undertake programmes like vacation teaching, advocacy, campaigns on environmental issues, HIV/AIDS, health and sanitation and career development.
