VRA supports Manya Krobo Traditional Council's coronavirus emergency fund

The Volta River Authority (VRA) on Wednesday, May 6, 2020, donated various handwashing items and a cash contribution to the Manya Krobo Traditional Council’s Covid-19 Emergency Fund as its contribution towards the traditional council’s initiative in the fight against the pandemic.

The items included 30 sets of Veronica buckets with stands, wash basins and bins, 30 packs of surgical masks, 30 packs of hand gloves, disposable gowns, 10 gallons of liquid soap, 30 rolls of tissue, 10 boxes of hand sanitizers and a cheque for GHS5,000.00.

The gesture was to bolster efforts of the Manya Krobo Traditional Council to combat the spread of the deadly infectious virus in the area.

Ghana currently has recorded 4,263 confirmed cases with 22 persons dead and 378 recovered.

Presenting the items to some members of the Covid-19 Emergency Fund committee at the forecourts of the Manya Krobo Traditional Council, the Director of Technical Services, Ing Ebenezer Koramoa who donated the items on behalf of Chief Executive Officer of the Volta River Authority, Mr Emmanuel Antwi-Darkwa, said the donation formed part of the commitment of the energy generation firm to lend a strong support to the traditional council’s response to stop the spread of the disease.

He identified the pandemic as a common foe and called for effective collaboration to win the fight.

“The coronavirus is an enemy that is attacking all of us and we need to do this fight collectively,” said Mr. Koramoa who acknowledged the threat posed by the virus as the motivation for the support for the communities in which the authority operates.

He admonished the general public to ensure strict compliance to the laid down preventive protocols including the stay-home directive and the habit of proper and regular handwashing to contain the spread of the virus.

Secretary to the covid-19 Fund, Godfred Ofoe Caesar who received the donation on behalf of the Trustees, expressed the gratitude of the fund and the traditional council for the gesture.

He described the gesture by the authority as a clear demonstration of its commitment to the fight against the virus, and pledged that the items would be put into the fight against the COVID-19.

The donation, he assured, will go a long way to support various health facilities in the traditional area for its staff, patients as well as visitors.

He was grateful that the VRA had responded to their appeal for support and was confident that more kind hearted individuals and organizations will in the coming days respond to their appeals for more support for the fund.

Another member of the committee and Public Relations Officer of the Manya Krobo Traditional Council, Nene Asada Ahor expressed appreciation for the gesture of the VRA but also appealed to other benevolent organizations to come in and assist the fund to fulfill its objectives.

He said supporting the fund to curb the pandemic should remain the priority of all individuals and corporate organizations.

The Manya Krobo Traditional Council led by the Paramount Chief for the Manya Krobo Traditional Area, Nene Sakite II on Monday, 20th April, 2020 launched the Covid-19 Emergency Fund as part of efforts to limit the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak in the traditional area.
