VRARTF with Pencils of Promise to rehabilitate the Tongor Ahoe Basic School
The Volta River Authority Resettlement Trust Fund (VRARTF) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Pencils of Promise (PoP), a Non-Governmental organization with focus on education to rehabilitate the Tongor Ahoe Basic School in the South Dayi District of the Volta Region.
In the agreement, the school's 37-year old dilapidated structure will be replaced with a new six-unit classroom block estimated at GHC460,000.00 to be completed in six months.
Mr Emmanuel Nana Antwi-Barimah, Board Chairman, VRARTF at a ground breaking ceremony for the project, which includes a six unit KVIP and urinals, said the Resettlement Fund and PoP would take 30 per cent and 70 per cent of the project cost respectively.
He said the partnership is geared towards providing a conducive atmosphere for learning and teaching and to make the school environment appealing to pupils and teachers.
Mr Freeman Gobah, Country Director, PoP, said the five year MoU would in its first year rehabilitate and build five schools in the VRA settlement communities located at Asuogyaman, South Dayi, Fanteakwa, Yilo Krobo and Upper Manya Districts in the Volta and Eastern regions.
He said the partnership would promote and improve quality education in the resettlement areas.
Mr Gobah said it was the first time the NGO signed an MoU with a public sector institution and expressed the hope that others would join to promote quality and accessible education.
Madam Justina Ziemeh, South Dayi District Director of Education, Ghana Education Service, applauded PoP for its commitment to education.
The two parties also signed a GHS314,000.00 MoU to rehabilitate the Nkwakubew schools in the Eastern Region.
