Veep inspects works on Gushiegu District hospital project

Gushiegu, (N/R), May 18, GNA- Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama on Thursday inspected the 7.3 million- Euro expansion works on the Gushiegu District Hospital, which is due for completion by December, this year. The project, which is replicated in Begoro and Sokakope comprises a center pavilion, three wards for males, females and children, kitchen, laundry, doctors' bungalows, nursing quarters and a temporary accommodation facility for people accompanying patients. The expansion works also include a mortuary, public toilet, incinerators and transformer house and a security post. Vice President Mahama was at Gushiegu, in the Northern Region as part of his four-day official visit to Region, as well as the Upper East Region.

He expressed satisfaction about the quality of works and urged the contractors to strive to complete the project ahead of schedule. Alhaji Mustapha Ali Idris Northern Regional Minister said the ruling New Patriotic Party, had bridged the development gap between the Southern part of the country and the North. He announced to the ecstatic crowd who besieged the project site to catch a glimpse of the Vice President that the government is proposing a sports stadium for Gushiegu.

Vice President Mahama earlier interacted with the chiefs of Nanton, Tampion and Gushiegu, where he appealed to them to live in peace and unity in order to attract more development projects. He assured the Nanton-Naa Alhaji Sulley Alhassan that the area would get their quota of the multi-million-dollar Millennium Challenge Account (MCA) being extended by the US to Ghana.

Vice President would address the West Mamprusi District Assembly on Friday and travel to the Upper East Region where he would be the Reviewing Officer at the passing out ceremony of a Community Corps at Bolgatanga.

He would also attend the 60th Anniversary celebration of St. John Bosco Training College at Navrongo.
