Veep shakes Barima Twireku Ampem III
Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has given the assurance that government is committed to providing quality education for Ghanaians and has urged the youth to make education their priority.
He said it is only through education that the citizens can be in charge of their lives and subsequently banish poverty out of Ghana.
The Vice President was speaking at a grand durbar of the chiefs and people of Ntotroso in the Brong Ahafo Region to climax the end of a week-long Apomosu Yam Festival at Ntrotroso under the theme: Promoting, Empowering the Girl Child Education the role of Traditional Authorities.
He said the theme for the festival was appropriate because there is a saying that to educate a woman is to educate a nation Government had initiated a number of projects which, over a period, would help increase access and bring improvements in the educational system.
Vice President Amissah-Arthur said education remained the key to human progress and, therefore, advised the youth of Ntortroso to take their studies seriously in order to become better citizens in future. Calling on parents and guardians to encourage the youth, especially the need for girl child to see education as a priority and put an end to early marriage and early birth in the area.
He commended the chiefs of Ntotroso traditional area for complementing the efforts of government in the area of education, thus using their own resource’s to put up a Nursing Training College, described their achievement as laudable. Together with the sustainable development committee that they have put up to help raise funds for the community.
Mr Arthur said the project is a good initiative adding that Newmont, NADEF, the District Assembly and the Ghana Education Service have the responsibility of ensuring that the projects is not only successful but has come to stay.
Mr. Kwesi Amissah Arthur observed that, when the nation's youth take their education serious, Ghana would have a brighter future, and he pledged the government's continuous support in making education very attractive to the youth. Adding it was in that direction that government has decided to make education attractive to the youth of Akwatia.
On the issue of a school bus for the Nursing Training College (NTC) that the chief appealed for, Mr Amissah-Arthur said he had personally taken it up and will soon bring them a bus. He added that government was committed to solving the challenges facing the people of the area and its environs and also assured the people of Ntotroso that very soon works would begin on their Tanoso bridge and roads that Nana spoke about since they had been captured in government projects.
On his part, Barima Twireku Ampem III who has been elevated to the Paramount status by the Otumfuo Asantehene for his hard work lauded the efforts of government for developing the area.
He called on government as a matter of urgency to come to the aid of the NTC with a bus to ease the movement of the students for clinical ,together with other infrastructural projects in the area especially the Tanoso Bridge which has become a death trap whenever it rains.
Some of the dignitaries who graced the occasion were the General Secretary of the NDC Mr Asiedu Nketia , Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Hon Collins Dauda, Brong Ahafo Regional Minister Hon Eric Opoku and the Minister for Chieftaincy and Culture Dr Seidu Danaa.
The Vice President on behalf of the government made some cash donation and as customary demands gave some creates of assorted drinks.
