Management of the Veterans Administration Ghana (VAG) on Thursday inaugurated a new cloth design and flag for members after it was adopted at a regional conference in Kumasi.

The cloth was to give identity to the administration and would be used by members for official programmes while the flag depicts the soul of the administration.

The new flag, which has the picture of an elephant and a tree and the inscription of the administration, was hoisted to replace the old flag at its headquarters in Accra.

Colonel Oscar Afefa Chris Nutakor (rtd), the Executive Director of the Administration, said the name was changed from the Veterans Association Ghana to Veterans Administration Ghana after it was passed into an Act in 2012 (Act 844) by parliament to make it the responsibility of the state.

He said the board of VAG were inaugurated on March 26 in accordance with the VAG Act 844 2012 to develop policies in support of the welfare of retired military personnel in the country.

The objectives of the new administration were to promote unity among veterans and foster the spirit of comradeship and mutual help and forge closer ties among retired service personnel.

Col Nutakor said the previous VAG was a voluntary association of ex-servicemen of the Ghana Armed Forces while the new law makes every ex-service personnel an automatic member of the Administration.

Colonel Nutakor (Rtd) said the inauguration had paved the way for the administration to embark on its projects such as the building of a hospital at Amasaman, VAG complex hall, block factory and other projects across the country.

He appealed to members to respect one another and uphold the core values and missions of the administration to enhance its image and help achieve and maintain the objectives as well.

Col Nutakor (Rtd) urged members to patronise the cloth since it would compliments efforts in raising revenue for the administration.
