Vice Chancellors congratulate Andam

Accra, July 19, GNA 96 Vice Chancellors Ghana (VCG) on Wednesday congratulated two of their members 96 Professor Kwesi Andam of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and Professor Jophus Anamuah-Mensah of University of Education, Winneba, for being honoured during the National Awards on June 30.
A statement signed by Mr Peter Kaba, Executive Secretary of the VCG, said the honour to the two Professors for their selfless dedication and meritorious service to Ghana in the field of education meant the role of the teacher in developing the human resource needs of the country had been recognised.
The statement said the award to Prof. Andam, who was also the current Chairman of VCG, was a reminder that service to one's country was observed by society.
It said over the last four years KNUST had witnessed tremendous changes not only in the physical environment and programme content but also international exposure.
Prof. Andam leaves office on October 1, 2006.
The statement said Prof. Anamuah-Mensah would forever be remembered for his immense contribution to the education reforms adding that his publications on education ranging from basic to tertiary level had engineered thought and policy formulation and implementation.
=93Taking the then University of Education, Winneba, through the mentoring stage with his alma mater, the University of Cape Coast, Prof. Anamuah-Mensah became its last Principal and the First Vice Chancellor. =93Vice Chancellors Ghana are indeed proud of you both and salute you for your great humanitarian service, which is a beacon of light to the younger generation that in service lies recognition,=94 the VCG said.
=93With your colleagues you have championed the cause of distance learning to extend university education to the teaming qualified candidates, who cannot gain admission into residential university campuses,=94 they said.
