Mr Smith, with the help of the Kukurantumihene, Daasebre Boamah Darko II, lobbied for the construction of the road to enable residents, mainly cocoa farmers, send their produce to the market.

The road construction, which is being handled by Gbewa Civil Engineering, is estimated to cost GH¢ 1,860,000 and is expected to be completed within three months.

The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) is funding the construction works s under the auspices of Feeder Roads Department. He said the gesture was in a bid to help bring outstanding development to the people of Abuakwa and that other projects such as building of the Tafo Market would commence before the end of next year. "Preparation is underway to put up a Vocational School to help the youth, especially girls, get requisite skills to reduce unemployment situation in the area and in the country as a whole. I will therefore need your fullest support to make these a realization," he added. Daasebre Boamah Darko II disclosed that the road under construction ha= d been dormant for more than 30 years and that all means to construct it proved futile. "We must all showcase unity, love and respect for each other to supp= ort this course and when that is done our land would see better developmental projects," he urged. Mr. Tawiah Boateng, Eastern Regional NDC Organizer, gave the assurance that the NDC had the mandate to ensure that the Better Ghana Agenda trickle= d down to every part of the country before the 2012 elections. "The good works we have put across the entire country would give the NDC an automatic win in the 2012 general elections with ease," he said. He called on the people to vote for Mr Smith as their Member of Parliament as he alone could get more aids to develop the area.
