Vigilance needed in this festive season - Commander

DCOP Isaac Alexander Quainoo, Western Regional Police Commander on Tuesday called on the public to be conscious of the activities of con men and other miscreants during the festive season.

"Be on the lookout, open your eyes and ears and be alert either in the market, lorry station or in your neighborhood ", he said.

DCOP Quainoo, speaking with the Ghana News Agency in an interview, said the Christmas and New Year festivities, has often seen a rise in criminal activities as people go about their businesses.

In this regard, he said, the Police Command has zoned the Region into various sectors with five policemen and one officer to promote maximum protection.

DCOP Quainoo said the Regional Police Command had activated all communication systems with a central point where information could be relayed for prompt action.

DCOP Quainoo said communities should help the police by providing information on strange and suspicious characters in their neighborhood.

He urged passengers to report any reckless drivers to the various barrier posts for prompt action.

In a related development, the Christmas bells have started ringing in the metropolis with the arrival of beautiful and well-designed costumes and other accessories mainly for children.

A visit to some mother care centers, cloth shops, and other groceries saw many people were trooping in and out for some goods.

The lorry stations have also seen a rise in vehicular traffic with people leaving or entering the city to celebrate the season with families and friends.

Mr Stephen Oppong, Station Master of the Juaboso, Enchi station, confirmed the upsurge in movements of people and goods and services saying the activities are yet to peak.
