Twenty-Eight hearing impaired and six visually impaired final year pupils of the Cape Coast School for the Deaf and Blind are taking part in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in Cape Coast.
The hearing impaired, made up of 15 boys and 13 girls, with the three boys and three girls visually impaired are among 432 candidates from 18 schools writing the week-long examination at the Holy Child School Centre in Cape Coast.
A total of 3,158 candidates comprising 1,671 girls and 1,487 boys are writing the examination in seven centres including Mfantsipim School, Adisadel College, St. Augustine’s College and Wesley Girls’ High School.
The Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited the first three aforementioned centres and can confirmed that the first day of the examination in the Metropolis started smoothly with a brief delay of examination materials.
Of the centres visited, two candidates, a boy and a girl, were the only absentees at the Holy Child School during the first paper; English Language, for unstated reasons while no pregnant girl was among the candidates at those centres.
The Mfantsipim School centre is hosting 599 students made up of 242 boys and 357 girls from 17 schools while 562 candidates comprising 263 boys and 269 girls from 15 schools are writing at the Adisadel College centre, according to the respective examination supervisors.
At the regional level, a total of 48,949 candidates made up of 25,424 boys and 23,525 girls are writing the examination.
