Ho, Jan 13, GNA-The Volta Regional Command of the Police Service is to recruit artisans to help renovate and maintain Police buildings and other properties on regular basis.

The artisans would include masons, carpenters, electrical technicians, painters and plumbers.

Mr. Benard Dery, Volta Regional Police Commander announced this at the end-of-year party dubbed: WASSA, of the Police Training School and other units located within

the school. He said the decision would help maintain and prolong the life-span of infrastructure of the Service. He said the defunct Police Band at the school would also be revived with bandsmen now on general duties recalled. Mr. Dery, who pledged to improve professionalism within

his command this year also promised to beef up the dwindling strength of the Mobile Force based within the

Training school. He asked instructors to tackle the subject of community

policing with all seriousness, since it was crucial to crime

prevention. Mr Isaac Kwadwo Asante, Deputy Superintendent of

Police (DSP) commanding the unit commended Azar Paints

and Gemini Life Insurance Company (GLICO) for

contributing to renovations of buildings going on at the

training school. He said Azar provided paints at subsidized rates while

Gemini provided some funding. Mr Asante said reports on products of the school were

gratifying; noting none of the 150 recruits who entered and

passed out last year was withdrawn for bad conduct. He listed inadequate human resource, shortage of

accommodation, old and dangerous electrical fittings and

wirings as some of the pressing problems facing the school. The ceremony, which was attended, by wives and

families of officers and men is a frontline welfare policy of

the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to improve morale in

the Police Service.
