Volta Regional Security Council demands equitable teacher distribution

The Volta Regional Security Council (VRSC) has passed a resolution to ensure equitable distribution of teachers in the region to improve quality teaching and learning.

The council said while some urban schools in the region were overstaffed, schools in remote communities lacked teachers, thereby denying pupils equal opportunities to develop their talents.

The resolution was adopted at the first 2026 meeting of the VRSC in Ho, chaired by the Regional Minister, Mr James Gunu.

It followed concerns over the regions poor performance in the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The council underscored the need for the GES to ensure that posting of teachers was done at the District Education offices to satisfy the teacher needs in the remote areas instead of allowing postings to be done from the Regional Education office.

Addressing the meeting, Mr Gunu, who also doubles as the Chairman of the VRSC, said the council regarded education as key to growth, and appealed to retired and experienced teachers to take up responsibilities in the empty classrooms in the region.

He, however, expressed satisfaction about the existing peace in the region and urged residents to maintain the peace and promote development of the region.

On the 2023 Akosombo and Kpong dam spillage, the Regional Minister indicated that government was preparing to compensate the victims, assuring that compensation packages would be provided for them before the end of year.

He said government was determined to promote development of the region through the massive road construction projects being carried out under the “Big push”, and asked the residents to have confidence in the government and cooperate to bring the needed development to the people.
