Volta Serene Hotel gifts Volta Regional Hospital GHc25,000 for double surface phototherapy unit

A Four-Star executive hotel, Volta Serene, has presented a cheque of GHc25,000 to the Volta Regional Hospital to purchase a Double Surface Phototherapy Unit for its physiotherapy unit.

The addition of another phototherapy unit to the existing 3 would augment healthcare delivery at the unit which receives approximately 90 premature babies in a month.

The presentation climaxed the maiden Festival of Nine Lessons and Carrols night held at the Volta Serene Hotel in Ho, Sunday evening.

The Chief Executive Officer of Volta Serene Hotel, Rhoda Ashiabi, said the presentation was aimed at ensuring neonates admitted at the physiotherapy unit receive adequate medical attention to prevent their conductions from developing into cerebral palsy.

She added that the double surface phototherapy unit would see premature borns spending less time at the facility.

“I understand that this one [phototherapy unit] is a double decker one so it reduces the time of treating the child from about 4-5 days to about just 5 hours”, she said.

Madam Ashiabi also indicated that “the First Sky Group have donated an amount of GhC10 million to support the Kolebu Kidney Dialysis Unit over the past two years”.

First Sky Construction Limited also pledged providing the Volta Regional Hospital a similar phototherapy unit in earnest.

The Deputy Medical Director of the Volta Regional Hospital, Dr. Lord Mensah, expressed great gratitude to Volta Serene Hotel for the kind gesture.

He said “I am the happiest man on earth today... detection and prevention at an early stage is the only solution to the problem of cerebral palsy, now they [Volta Serene Hotel] have given us a cheque for a phototherapy unit, a double decker one that can reduce jaundice that neonates develop to the bearest minimum so that the brain is not affected.”

He also implored other philanthropists and organizations to support equip the children unit of the Volta Regional Hospital with all requisite medical logistics to enhance quality healthcare delivery to patients.
