Adadientem (Ash), March 14, GNA - The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has approved of the Church of Christ Secondary/Commercial School (CRISEC) at Adadientem in the Ejisu-Juaben District as a centre for the conduct of the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE) as from July, 2004.

Mr Cosmos Owusu Afriyie, Headmaster of the school, who announced this, said with the approval, the green light had now been given the school to register candidates to write the SSSCE on the school compound. He attributed the approval to the confidence the WAEC had in the capacity of the school to discipline candidates and supervise such academic works.

Mr Afriyie made the announcement at a special open day and fund-raising held at Adadientem on Saturday at which more than 20 students both past and present were honoured with awards for excelling in their academic pursuits and disciplines.

The day also coincided with the inauguration of a 10-member Board of Governors for CRISEC under the chairmanship of Mr K. Osei Poku, a public administrator.

The fund-raising which yielded over 105 million cedis would be injected into the completion of on-going works on an assembly hall before July so that it could also be used as the SSSCE centre. The Headmaster observed that even though the school was young and had numerous problems that did not deter it from performing creditably academically and being ranked amongst the best in the 2002 and 2003 SSSCE results in the district.

Mr Afriyie said the school was not just focusing on academic development of students but also on instilling strong moral values and discipline in them.

The Headmaster used the occasion to laud the chief and elders of Adadientem for releasing 18 acres of land free-of-charge to the Church of Christ for the establishment of the school in 1999 and the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) for donating a bus to the school. Mr Festus Boadi-Soadwa, the Ejisu-Juaben District Director of Education, said without discipline no student nor educational institution could achieve its academic mission.

He commended the CRISEC authorities for attaching equal importance to moral discipline in students as academic pursuits.
