Dormaa Ahenkro, (B/A), Nov 22, GNA - The results of the entire candidates of Dormaa Secondary School in English Language Paper One of this year's West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate Examination has been withheld following their alleged involvement in examination malpractice.
This means none of the 457 candidates can gain admission into any tertiary institution in the country this year.
Mr. John Akrong, assistant headmaster of the school told the Ghana News Agency at Dormaa Ahenkro that a report of the West Africa Examinations Council attached to the results indicated that the students engaged in "serious collusion" when writing the paper, as traces of similarities were detected in both their answers and approach to the questions.
He said the results of the remaining seven subjects for 197 candidates were also being withheld by the WAEC pending further investigations into similar malpractices.
The assistant headmaster added that 214 of the remaining students obtained passes in seven subjects, 38 others were successful in six subjects, whilst six candidates passed in five subjects.
Meanwhile 14 final year students of the school who were expected to register for the 2007 WASSCE cannot be traced in the school.
Mr. Akrong said he or the staff could not fathom what had led to the students' unceremonious departure, adding that several other students who had initial difficulty with registration fees were offered dispensation by the school.
He said the headmaster and staffs were making frantic efforts to reach parents of the eight boys and six female students who had vamoosed.
