Shama (W/R), March. 7, GNA- The West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) has handed over a US20,000 school building to the Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Sports, Mrs Angelina Baiden-Ammisah at Shama.
Presenting the keys to the building, Mrs Harriet Wereko-Brobbey, General Manager in charge of Corporate Affairs said, the building formed part of the Community Development Plan (CDP) of the company and was to ensure that all communities where the WAPCo pipelines passes enjoy some social amenities.
She said WAPCo was spending US400,000 on projects in seven communities in Ghana.
These are Inchaban, Shama, Dwomo, Abuesi, Aboadze in the Western region and Kpone and Tema in the Greater Accra region. She said the company had provided drains, classroom blocks and maternity ward, adding that, the CDP were aimed at improving education, water, health, sanitation and capacity building.
Mrs Wereko-Brobbery said the company had enjoyed tremendous support from various stakeholders, their respective communities and had ensured a smooth implementation of all social infrastructure.
Mrs Angelina B. Amissah, who is also the Member of Parliament for the Shama constituency thanked the management of WAPCo for the support and that the improved infrastructure had facilitated teaching and learning.
She said it was refreshing to note that the Takoradi International Company (TICO), the Volta River Authority (VRA) and WAPCo had all lived to their social responsibilities and supported in the improvement of the lives of the people in the community.
Mrs Baiden-Amissah said a visit round several parts of the country show that the enrolment of girls in schools was rising steadily and hoped it would be maintained to enable the country to achieve its development goals.
