WWMF of Britain to build computer centre at Asokore

Koforidua, Mar. 17, GNA- The Wood World Mission Foundation (WWMF) of Britain is to construct a computer centre estimated at 25,000 pounds at Asokore, a suburb of Koforidua, in the New Juaben Municipality to offer computer training to the less privileged in the country.

The centre, which will be furnished, equipped with computers and accessories, in addition to residential accommodation, will be built on a piece of land released to the Foundation by the chiefs and people of Asokore.

Rev. William Wood, the Founder and Chairman of the Foundation, disclosed this at the graduation of 29 youth trained in computer literacy and dressmaking sponsored by the Asokore branch of the Foundation on Tuesday.

The training programme was facilitated by the earlier donation of six computers and six sewing machines to the Asokore branch by the British WWMF last year, to provide training for the less privileged in the society.

Rev. Wood, who is also a Lawyer, said the Foundation had donated a computer and its accessories valued at 5,000 pounds to the Asokore branch during the present tour.

He expressed gratitude to the chiefs and people of Asokore for the release of the land and urged them to assist the Foundation through communal labour to complete the project on time.

The Executive Chairman of the Asokore branch of the Foundation, Mr Edward N. Oduro pledged that the donation would be used for the purpose, adding that when completed the project would enable the branch to support income generating and poverty reduction programme in the country.

The gesture, he said, would also promote good relationship between Ghana and Britain.

Mr Oduro appealed to the people in the area to take advantage of the computer-training programme to enrol to become computer literates.
