Funsi (U/E), Dec 24, GNA- Mr Petro P. Ankorle, Wa East Co-ordinating Director, has urged people of the area not to engage in land, chieftaincy, religious and political conflict but to unite to develop the area.

He said the area was without basic facilities such as schools, health facilities, good roads and other facilities ''and we have to fight to put the people of the area at par with their colleagues in other districts.''

Mr Ankorle said this at Funsi, the newly created Wa East District Capital, during the election of Mr N.J. Mohammed Musah as the Presiding Member of the assembly.

Mr Musah polled 24 out of the total of 25 votes cast to exceed the 17 two-thirds majority votes that he needed.

Mr Ankorle said the assembly received 2.8 million cedis as its share of the District Assembly Common Fund and urged the people to generate more income for development projects in the area.

Mr Godfrey Bayon Tangu, the Wa Municipal Chief Executive, commended the house for choosing a presiding member without any conflict of interest and urged them to replicate that in their quest for unity and development.

Mr Tangu, who is also the Member of Parliament-elect Wa East, pledged to collaborate effectively with them to speed up the development of the area.

Mr. Musah expressed his gratitude to the house and promised to live up to expectation. 24 Dec 04
