Funsi (U/W), Aug 19, GNA- Mr Godfrey B. Tanguj, Wa Municipal Chief Executive has appealed to the three ethnic groups in the Wa District to live in peace in order to advance the socio-economic development of the new District.
He said no meaningful development could take place in any society, which was plagued with conflicts, disputes and political conflicts. Mr Tangu, who was speaking at the inauguration of the newly created Wa East District at Funsi on Thursday, urged chiefs and people of the three ethnic groups in the District, Sissala, Wala and Chakala to uphold the peace and promote unity among them.
Mr Mahami Salifu, Upper East Regional Minister read the inaugural address on behalf of President John Agyekum Kufuor.
At the inaugural ceremony, Mr Petro Philemon Ankorle, an administrative officer at the Regional Co-ordinating Council was also introduced to the chiefs and people as the District Co-ordinating Director for the District.
The 23 assemblymen and women of the area previously serving at the Wa Municipal Assembly introduced themselves to the people. The remaining two new districts, Wa West and Sissala West with their capitals at Wichiau and Gwollu respectively would be inaugurated on August 27.
In an address read on his behalf, the regent of Funsi, Juoro Braimah Nalayakina Dumah expressed gratitude of the chiefs and people of the district to the government for the creation of the district. He said the inauguration of the district has fulfilled the dream of the people of the area to have a district of their own.
He assured the government of the readiness of his people to co-operate with officials who would be posted to serve in the area. 19 Aug 04
