Wa MCE cracks whip on street sellers

Mr Issahaku Nuhu Putiaha, Wa Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) says decongestion of the Municipality would go on despite the strong resistance from affected persons.

He said he had received positive feedback from the public including leaders of opposition parties in the Upper West Region.

Mr Putiaha who spoke to the Ghana News Agency, in an interview in Wa, said people who are selling at the entrance to the main market had been moved into the facility, thereby, creating space for people to park their motor bikes while shopping.

He said the Tendamba and Kambali satellite markets that were located by the road side causing accidents on daily basis have been relocated to more appropriate sites.

The MCE said the Dondoli satellite market would also be relocated.

Mr Putiaha said two places located around SSNIT office and the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Wa have been identified to serve as parking places for “trotro” operators who are currently operating without specific parking places.

He said Metro Mass transport would also be moved to its officially designated yard, while the cargo trucks that often cause traffic congestion at the Wa- Fadama market would be shifted.

The MCE said structures built along some roads would be demolished to pave way for the reconstruction of access routes.

“I will insist on doing the right thing that would benefit majority of the people even if it would cause me my life rather than condoning the wrong thing to benefit the few,” he said.
