Mr. Isaac Kwasi Kyeremeh, the Dormaa East District Chief Executive , has called for a Ghanaian language to be used at national functions since the English Language posed as a barrier to effective communication with especially those at the grassroots level.
He made the call at the district’s celebration of Ghana’s 55th independence anniversary at Wamfie.
Mr. Kyeremeh said for the nation to attain total independence, self-reliance, discipline and hard work must be made practical in the daily lives of the citizenry.
“There is the need for the people of this country to be disciplined and to do away with the old and colonial ways of doing things”, he said and added that the
government was ensuring the sustainable development of the district,.
Mr Kyereme said the government supplied a quantity of 2,938 and 2,590 school uniforms to basic schools in the district in 2010 and 2011 respectively and as well as exercise books and dual desks.
Techiman Municipal Assembly disbursed a total of GHC6, 239,686.54 towards the construction of three unit, six unit and 12 unit classroom blocks and a two-unit kindergarten in the municipality.
This is geared towards removing schools under trees, Mr. Alex Kofi Kyeremeh, Municipal Chief Executive said at a parade to mark the anniversary on Tuesday.
He said the assembly was putting up two-storey dormitory blocks for Techiman Senior High School and 12-unit classroom blocks each for Buoyem and Offuman Senior High Schools in the municipality.
Oseadeyo Akumfi Ameyaw IV,the Paramount Chief of Techiman Traditional Area, called on those involved in chieftaincy dispute between Bono and Ashanti to settle their differences amicably since Otumfuor Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, sought peace between the people of Techiman and Asantes.
He said he supported the Asantehene’s moves and gave the assurance that Techiman would continue to maintain peace and stability for socio-economic development.
