Wassa East District celebrates teachers

Teachers in Wassa East District were celebrated in a spectacular 2018 Teachers Awards dinner event at Daboase Community Hall. Fifteen Teachers were recognized and honoured with Prizes which included Certificates, Laptops, Refrigerators, Android Tablets, TV sets, standing fans and Party for teaching Staff.

The colorful event was organized by Wassa East District and collaboration with the District Education Directorate. The last time Teachers Award event was organized in the district was ten years ago.

Wilson Arthur, the honourable DCE of Wassa East disclosed that Human Capital Development and Agricultural Development were the two priority strategic vehicles his administration is using to transform the rural district.

The Awards investment was in response to the good performance of Teachers which reflected in 97% BECE pass rate. This followed the Assemblies sponsorship of two Mock Exams and ensuring feedback informs student preparation in few weeks to the BECE Examination.

Mrs Ernestina Christina Winful, the District Director of Education was elated for this motivational event. She attested to the credibility of the process that selected Award Winners and called for additional incentives to make rural Wassa East Communities attractive to halt the high attrition rate.

Mrs Rebecca Efiba Dadzie, a former District Director and Western Regional Director of Education expressed her happiness for the Awards especially the quality but said she was not surprised because she worked with Wilson Arhur on Western Education Trust Fund. Under Mr Arthur's chairmanship (2009-2012), the fund was most impactful.

She charged the Teachers to be the reason why pupils would be excited to come to school. Mr JC Quansah, a retired Metro Director of Education who also taught Wilson Arthur at St John's School congratulated the Awardees adding that Hon Wilson Arthur is a believer and investor in education so are assured of support.

Mr Ayub Morgan, a GES Council member who was also a guest of honour assured Wassa East Management of their readiness to support the transformational agenda if called upon.

The winners are Fuluyartu Amadu - Best KGA Teacher, Deborah Adjei - Best Primary Teacher, Evelyn Boatemaa Darko - Best JHS Teacher, Isaah Ackah - Best English Teacher, Emmanuel Divine-Sena - Best Math Teacher, Ibrahim Osman - Best Science Teacher, Mary Adotey - Best Secondary School Tutor, Alexander Addae - Best GES Non Teaching Staff, Lydia A.

Oppusuman - Best French Teacher, Abetemasu DA Primary School - Best Primary School, Domama DA JHS - the most improved BECE School performer, Alex Benya - Dedication Special Award, Victor Armah - Dedicated Special Award, George Nti Amoah - Best Circuit Supervisor and George Hanson Best - ICT Teacher.
