Water Weed Threaten Reservoirs In BA, Ashanti

About 75 per cent of the Tanoso reservoir in the Brong-Ahafo Region and 20 per cent of the Barekese and Owabi reservoirs in Ashanti Region have been covered by waterweeds.

The figures represent 200 per cent increase and a decrease of 50 and 80 per cent respectively over a survey conducted in 1995.

These facts came to light at the presentation of research findings on “Waterweeds-problems and management case of Barekese, Owabi and Tanoso Reservoir” in Accra yesterday.

The research was organised by the Water Research Institute (WRI) of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
