Water closet facility abandoned

Akwadum, April 4, GNA- The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, has described as unacceptable the trend where public facilities meant for the wellbeing of people were left unused. He said all public facilities were at the expense of the tax payer's money and people must therefore demand answers from those in charge to cut the waste in society.

Mr Ofosu-Ampofo made the remarks at Akwadum when it came to his notice that a 20-seater water closet toilet facility had been abandoned to its fate whiles a local government school nearby had no toilet facility. The Minister had gone to Akwadum to donate 25 packets of roofing sheets to households and the local basic schools whose ceilings were ripped off as a result of rainstorm that hit the town.

Mr Ofosu-Ampofo who was not happy with that situation said that trend must be condemned and wondered why the school which had kindergarten through to Junior High School could be deprived of such a basic amenity while some had been left to rot. He said whether it was the New Patriotic Party (NPP) or the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government that undertook the project, money spent on it was from the tax payers pocket therefore it cannot be allowed to sit there idle whiles the same people defecated indiscriminately around. The facility according to sources was constructed by the Member of Parliament (MP) for New Juaben North, Mr Hackman Owusu Agyeman, but due to mismanagement it had been locked up. The Chief of the Town, Nana Owusu Agyare, told the minister that the citing of the facility was not suitable for the people and appealed to him to consult them in future whenever a project was going to be provided to forestall such occurrences.
