A Severe water shortage has hit Ekumfi T.I. Ahmaddiyya Senior High School(SHS) in the Mfantseman East Constituency of the Central Region, compelling students to spend school hours in search of the commodity.

The situation has forced the Authorities of the School to spend at least GH¢2,700 a week to purchase water from tankers.

Mr Mohammed Ackonu, Head Master of the School made this known at a Press briefing at Ekumfi Essakyire in the Central Region.

He appealed to the government, non-governmental organisations and Ekumfi District Assembly to come to the aid of the school.

According to the Headmaster, the only bole hole which serves the 1,486 population of the school has broken down.

“The school have no alternative than to buy water from outside,” he said.

Mr Ackonu said the school is facing many challenges such as inadequate accommodation for tutors, lack of classrooms block, fence wall and dormitories for boys and girls.

He said about 90 per cent of the tutors commute from Winneba, Mankessim and Apam Junction to the school, which is impeding effective teaching and learning.

Mr Ackonu appealed to the Central Government to release funds for the completion of two dormitory block for boys and girls, which he said should have been completed in September last year.
