Supreso (ER), Nov. 16, GNA - The Hunger Project, has inaugurated a water project at Supreso in the Suhum Kraboa Coaltar District at the weekend.
Mr Isaac Olesu-Adjei, National Programmes Officer, inaugurating the $8,050.00.00-Project, said it was a partnership between the Supreso Epicenter, the Hunger Project-Ghana (THP-Ghana) and Rotary Club of Accra Ring Road Central.
He said when the Supreso Epicenter building was completed last year, health personnel were reluctant to move into the nurses' quarters and work at the clinic due to the lack of potable water and electricity.
Mr Olesu-Adjei said that the execution of the Project would bring relief to the health workers and the people.
Mr Olesu-Adjei commended the Rotary Club for co-funding the project and expressed the hope that the partnership would be sustained so that water could be supplied to the remaining 18 epicenters.
He appealed to people to consider the project as theirs and maintain it.
Mrs Sophia Twum-Barimah, President of the Rotary Club, in a speech read on her behalf, said the Project was intended to provide drinking water to the people at Supreso and its environs, who visited the Epicenter building for medical, education and banking needs as well as food storage and processing.
She said that the Project comprised a borehole connected to a 7,000-liter water tank with a submersible pump and a generator to serve the Epicenter building.
Mrs Twum-Barima said the Project would assist in eliminating water-borne diseases and enable children have enough time to engage in productive ventures instead of spending long time looking for water. Mr Samuel Flesher-Kwabi, Suhum Kraboa Coaltar District Chief Executive, advised the people to take good care of the facility to help prolong its life span.
Mr James Nyakotey, assembly member for the area, said the facility was provided when the people were facing acute water shortage.
