Awutu Obrachire, (C/R), Feb. 13, GNA - The laying of new pipe lines from Agona Kwanyako Head Water Works to Awutu Bawjiase has affected water supply to the Obrachire Senior Secondary/Technical School and other towns along the Swedru/Bawjiase main road.

Reverend Dr. Helena Hope Araba Grahi, Headmistress of the school told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Awutu Obrachire that the situation had compelled the students and the affected communities to use untreated water. She said the authorities of the school are spending huge amounts of money to buy water for the preparation of food for the students with a population of 993 and tutors staying on campus. Rev. Grahi said the authorities were making frantic efforts to arrange for water tankers to supply water to the school.

She appealed to the Ministry of Education, Awutu-Senya District Assembly and other stakeholders to come to the aid of the school. Mr Baffor Ofosu-Addea, Agona West Municipal Manager of the Ghana Water Company who spoke to the GNA attributed the water shortage to the construction of the new pipelines.

He said the company had made arrangement to supply water to the people especially Obrachire Senior High Technical School. Mr Ofosu-Addea expressed the hope that the situation would be normal on completion of project in three months time and appealed to the school authorities and the affected localities to exercise restraint. 13 Feb. 10
