Youth in the Asawase constituency are unhappy about how some media houses have misrepresented issues about them.
The concerned youth wants the media to be fair in its reportage and stop painting them black.
Asawase Constituency is one of the biggest and most popular Zongo settlements in Ghana, dominated by people from Northern Ghana.
According to the youth, recent happenings within the constituency have received different half truth narrations from the media space which is affecting their daily activities.
The most recent is the killing of seven young men from the constituency by the police which triggered unrest in the Muslim dominated community.
“The media should know there are good things to report about our constituency. We know they are some setbacks but all the same, the positive vibes are more than the latter," they say.
Frank Armaah, a civil engineer who resides in the community wants the media to highlight issues that need to be addressed.
"They should utilize the rich culture here and create safe space for us,” he said.
The youth spoke to the media at the graduation ceremony of 140 youth from the Asokore Mampong municipal assembly in the Asawase constituency.
The 140 youth were sponsored by the Asokore Mampong Assembly, the European Union, and SOS children villages to undergo an intensive month's Core life skills, entrepreneurship and employability training at the No Business As Usual Hub.
Out of the 140 youth, 59 are males, 81 females with 20 of them being people with special needs. Among the 140 youth, 55 have been employed whiles 26 have started their own business.
"It is very exciting to know that the NBU project is making an impact and reducing the unemployment rate amongst youth in the Asawase Constituency,” the Project coordinator at the 'No Business as usual', Esther Matey explained.
