The Agogo District Police Command has refuted allegations that it has taken bribe from Fulani herdsmen in the area, hence their inability to flush out the nomads.

According to the police, it will not compromise on its integrity by allowing themselves to be influenced monetarily and in so doing expose the good people of Agogo to insecurity.

Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Kwadwo Baah Agyemang on Tuesday led a demonstration at Agogo in the Ashanti region to evict Fulani herdsmen from the area.

The demonstration was dubbed: “Operation kill any cattle seen on farmlands.”

The irate youth in the area say the action is a last resort as traditional leaders of the area have failed to solve the age-long ‘Fulani menace’.

They have also blamed the police for doing very little to clear out the nomads who have been accused of perpetrating crimes including murder and rape besides the destruction of farm crops by their grazing cattle.

But speaking on Peace FM Wednesday, the Agogo District Police Commander, A.S.P Asamoah Agyekum, he dismissed the allegation against his outfit insisting that the police remains committed to ensuring the safety of the residents to enable them undertake the legitimate business safely and unhindered.

“We urge Agogo residents to have faith in the Police as we are there to protect them. We haven’t taken bribe from the Fulanis. We certainly cannot be supporting the Fulanis to attack our brothers and sisters in Agogo. If the residents were keenly following issues, they would have realized that we have fought hard to ensure the tremendous reduction of Fulani attacks in the area.”

When asked why the Police are unable to flush them out of the area despite a court order in 2012, A.S.P Asamoah Agyekum said the court directive was given to the National Security and not the police.
