The construction of the first ever interchange in the Northern Regional capital of Tamale is the priority of the people with claims residents in some time to come cannot survive without the facility , according to Regional Minister, Alhaji Salifu Sa-eed.

According to the government appointee, who spoke on a Hello FM in Kumasi in an interview MyNewsGh.com monitored, there are other priorities of the people which are equally important as the construction of the interchange listing how the project is going to benefit the region.

“The Construction of the Tamale Interchange would help address these strategic objectives of the Ministry of Roads and Highways”.

“Tamale is a main transit town to Ghana’s northern neighbour of Burkina Faso and other landlocked countries and also serves an important trading route”

“Most of the traffic from the port of Tema to the landlocked countries use the city of Tamale as a thoroughfare making it very important for both local and international traffic”

Hon. Salifu Sa-eed pointed out that currently, the central part of Tamale experiences major delays during peak periods.

“The Tamale interchange is about one kilometre long and links the Kumasi road through the Point 7 road, the Central Taxi Rank, Central Market intersection with the Melcom Road and Bolgatanga Road”

The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Wednesday cut a sod for the construction of the project which is one of the promises of the Akufo-Addo led government under the Master Project Support Agreement (MPSA) between the Government of Ghana (GOG) and the $2 billion Sinohydro Corporation Company of China.

Among the dignitaries who graced the occasion wre the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Overlord of Dagbon, Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama II, Ministers of state and officials of the Sinohydro Corporation Company of China
