Ashanti Regional Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Kwabena Nsenkyire, has stated that his outfit was in dire support from the World Bank to enable personnel to preform their duties well.
According to Kwabena Nsenkyire, the lack of both human and financial resources, identified as the major challenges facing government agency, contributed to the organisation's inability to assist people affected by a heavy rainstorm in Kumasi.
More than 200 houses were submerged after nearly six hours of heavy rainstorm, coupled with lightening and thunder in the Kumasi Metropolis in the Ashanti Region.
Recounting the situation, the Regional NADMO Boss revealed in an interview monitored by Kwabena Danso-Dapaah on Kumasi-based Nhyira FM that the incident left most of the affected residence in a hopeless and helpless situation.
He stated that affected areas included Ahwia-Overseas, Madam Mork area in Santasi, Parakou Estate, South Suntreso junction, near the Bekwai roundabout, Ashtown, C.P.C, Moshie Zongo junction and Airport roundabout.
At Parakou Estate at Atasamanso and South Suntreso junction, near the Friends Gardens restaurant, trapped residents were rescued by NADMO officials, who sent them to guests’ house for shelter around 12 midnight.
Calling on the World Bank to help make work easy, he said, "We lack money to do the work effectively so we are appealing to World Bank for support."
