Eastern Corridor Road Monitoring Taskforce on Friday expressed satisfaction at the progress of work on stretches of road on the corridor.
The Taskforce said it was impressed about the laying of asphalt on the three-kilometre stretch of the road on one side and the fixing of “binder course” on a seven-kilometre of the 45 kilometres stretch being constructed by G.S. Developers International.
This follows the fixing of crashed rock base in preparation for asphalting.
Commodore Steve Obimpeh, Chairman of the Taskforce, told pressmen; “we are happy with what we have seen. The contractor is back to site and work is progressing.”
He said though work had not reached the level expected, the team was impressed and urged the contractor to work faster.
Mr Shaw Young Dong, Project Manager of G.S Developers, said but for the breaking down of an asphalt plant, they could have asphalted 10 kilometres stretch of the road before the end of last year.
He, however, gave the assurance that the project would be delivered in 15 months as promised.
Mr Dong said his outfit was waiting on the revision of estimates for the project and that once that was done, there would be no bottleneck.
Mr Edem Asimah, Member of Parliament (MP) for South Dayi, said the road was important to government and communities along the stretch and prayed that work would be completed in time.
The team also commended contractors on the Ho-Adaklu-Sogakope road for returning to site and working.
Mr Kwame Agbodza, MP for Adaklu, said he was happy for “significant improvement” on sections of the road being done by Ussuya Ghana Limited and Jah-Nicorf Construction Limited and commended PMC for coming back to site.
Mr Joseph Adjei-Nimoh, Managing Director of Jah-Nicorf Construction Limited, assured the Taskforce that the firm would finish its work by the end of January 2015.
The Taskforce was set up by the Office of the Chief of Staff to monitor progress of work on the Eastern Corridor and Ho-Adaklu-Sogakope roads and ensure that they were delivered within time and done “satisfactorily”.
