We're ready for John Mahama ahead of 2020 polls - Savannah Region

The just-ended presidential primaries of the opposition National Democratic Congress saw delegates within the newly created Savannah region overwhelmingly endorsing Ex-president John Dramani Mahama as flagbearer of the party.

The former president Saturday, secured a total of 213,443 of the valid votes cast representing 95.24 percent sanction to lead the NDC to what the party describes "victory" in Election 2020.

Former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies (UPSA), Prof. Joshua Alabi obtained a total of 3,399 votes representing 1.52 percent to place second among others.

In his home region, the newly created Savannah region, former president Mahama polled a massive 5,004 votes out of the total valid votes of 5,144, which translate to 97.28 percent to win in the infant region.

The rest of the candidates distributed the remaining 140 votes, representing 2.72 percent of the valid votes cast.

Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumani Bagbin for instance, garnered 48 votes representing 0.93 percent of the total valid votes cast to place second.

Professor Joshua Alabi followed in the third position with a total of 37 votes representing 0.72 percent.

Former Trade and Industry Minister, Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah placed fourth with a total of 23 votes, constituting 0.45 percent followed by Goosie Tanoh with a total of 15 votes translating to 0.29 percent.

Then came Sylvester Mensah at the fifth position with a total of 10 votes representing 0.19 percent.

Nurudeen Iddrisu appeared at the bottom with a total of seven votes constituting 0.14 percent of the valid votes cast.

Ex-president Mahama won in all the seven constituencies in the newly created Savannah region.



Expressing their readiness to deliver victory for the former president ahead of the 2020 election, NDC communication officer for Damongo constituency, Mr.Mumuni Yahaya disclosed in an interview with Ghanaweb's Ananpansah B Abraham that, they were energised than ever to rescue Ghana from the naked hands of the nation wreckers.

Whilst applauding the courage of the losing candidates, he enjoined them to write off the past and collectively work with the winning candidate for a resounding victory in the 2020 election.

In his victory speech, Mr Mahama said: “Tonight, I want to serve notice to Ghana that from the outcome of this election, the NDC is strong. The NDC is united. The NDC is poised for victory in 2020. And nothing, absolutely nothing can stop our march towards [the] Flagstaff House.”

The victory, Mr Mahama said, “Is a call to duty, a call to action and a call to battle”, adding that: “I wish that this fire will keep on burning”.

He urged the party to “eschew all attempts to divide us”.

“I will work closely with all of you so that our common objective of returning to power would be achieved. I salute all our executives. It is my hope that we will work together and eschew all attempts to divide us. Let us trust each other and let us not believe the kind of stories we circulated creating an impression that we are against each other,” he added.
