Accra, June 2, GNA - The Federation of Universities Senior Staff Association of Ghana (FUSSAG) and the Teachers and Educational Workers' Union (TEWU) have warned that they would "advise" themselves if their salary arrears are not paid by close of work on June 16, this year. They gave the warning in a resolution adopted by national and local officers of TEWU and FUSSAG at a meeting in Accra last Thursday. "If by the close of work on Friday, June 16, 2006, our salary arrears have not been fully paid we shall deem it fit to advise ourselves", said the resolution signed by Mr Dan Ayim Antwi and Mr Peter Lumor, General Secretary and First National Vice Chairman, respectively of the TEWU.

Mr M.A Eghan, Federal President of FUSSAG and Mr Thomas Dabriboyen-Ziem, Chairman Committee of Universities Local Union Executives, also signed the resolution. Already the Unions of Polytechnics and the Ghana Education Service are currently on strike.

The striking polytechnic union is demanding the mandate of Vice Chancellors to open negotiation on their Collective Bargaining Agreement which expired last year while the GES Union are calling for better conditions of service. Unionised workers from the Polytechnics are demanding mandate for negotiation on the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) which expired since January 2005.
