We will ensure creation of Oti Region succeeds - Krachiwura

The Krachiwura of Krachi Traditional Area, Nana Mprah Besemuna III, has mounted a strong support for the creation of a new region out of the Volta Region.

He explained that his traditional area strongly believes the creation the proposed “Oti Region” is the only avenue to harness resources to rapidly develop the northern part of the Volta region hence would give it the relevant support.

Addressing the Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Letsa, at his palace in Kete Krachi, Nana Mprah Besemuna III said ''We are going to do everything we can to make sure that the project [creating of a new region] succeeds''.

Nana Mprah Besemuna III who is a strong advocate for the new region asserted that the underdeveloped state of the northern part of the region prompted the traditional area to kick start a campaign towards creation of the proposed Oti Region some years back.

He, however, commended the New Patriotic government on its commitment towards carving a region out of the Volta Region and appealed to chiefs to form a synergy to overcome challenges that would emerge in executing the process rather than opposing the initiative.

The traditional ruler stated that “as good chiefs who are interested in development of the region, what we should be doing collectively is to see how we can overcome constitutional hurdles.”

The Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, who was on a working visit to districts in the northern part of the region assured of government’s commitment towards creating the new region to enhance develop the northern sector of the region and eradicate abject poverty.

He mentioned that “this area, poverty is very prevalent so we need to create a region here to speed up the development of this area”.

That notwithstanding, Dr Letsa hinted that a bridge would be constructed on the Oti River by some investors under a Private Public Partnership agreement to connect Krachi East to Krachi West and Krachi Nchumuru Districts for easy transport of goods and services.

He also appealed to the Krachi Traditional Area to make available lands for construction of a proposed starch factory under the government’s flagship industrialisation program, One District, One Factory and a cassava cultivation.
