Kpeve (V/R), Aug. 20, GNA - Togbe Agbi Nani IV, Mankrado of Kpeve Traditional Area, on Thursday expressed the hope that the electorate would give the Government another four-year-term to push through its developmental programmes.

Speaking at the inauguration of the newly created South Dayi District at Kpeve, Togbe Nani observed that the Government had deepened democracy, ensured equitable distribution of resources and development and enhanced the rural peoples' participation in decision-making. "Government has succeeded in areas where past governments had failed, we will not disappoint the Government of the New Patriotic Party", he said.

Togbe Nani expressed admiration for government's political will to take decisions which others were not able to do.

He cited the creation of the South-Dayi District as one of such decisions, which he said were the wishes of the majority of the people. Togbe Nani, however, called for the incorporation of Kpeve Old Town of the Hohoe District into the South-Dayi District, because of its proximity to the new District.

He urged the people to remain united in protecting the peace in the area.

Mr Pius Adanuti, Kpando District Chief Executive, said 3.94 billion cedis had been allocated to the new District and appealed to the people to create a congenial atmosphere for a smooth take-off. He advised the people to remain focused and to guard against unproductive ventures.

Dr Kwame Ampofo, Member of Parliament for South Dayi, urged the people to work together as one people.

President John Agyekum Kufuor in his inaugural address asked members of new district assemblies not to regard themselves as privileged groups but as stewards with responsibilities to perform.

The four Paramount Chiefs in the District, at the ceremony conferred on President Kufuor the title "Okrebekuku, Edole Kome Kogba" literally meaning, "The man, who holds the centre together".

Meanwhile, Mr Edward Kwame Azah, an Educationist, was elected a Presiding Member of the new District Assembly composed of assembly members whose electoral areas fall within the new District.
