Accra, June 27, GNA - A 13-member reconstituted board of governors for Wesley Grammar School was on Wednesday inaugurated to oversee the formulation and implementation of relevant policies to give the school a facelift.
The members are the Right Reverend Abraham Tagoe, Chairman, the Very Reverend Rev. Ishmeal Quartey, Secretary, Very Rev. Isaac Aidoo, headmaster, Mr Stephen Asher, member, Mrs Akosua Adu, member and Mr James Dinsey, member.
The rest were Dr Samuel Akor, Mr Elvis Aryeh, Mr Enoch Dodoo, Mr Charles Dodoo, Mr Thomas Acquah, Mr Ambrose Kwadzodza and a representative yet to be chosen from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly. Mr James Dinsey, Metro Director of Education, who performed the inauguration, said the government had underscored the element of community participation in the education system.
He said the board must live to the mark by offering bold and imaginative support and advice to enable the school to execute its programmes without interruption. "As a board of governors, you are the bulwark behind the battle front and the strength behind the headmaster and the staff." Mr Dinsey called on the new board to continue in the good spirit of their predecessors and give a sense of direction and advice accordingly in the development of the school. "Please do not attempt to run the day-to-day administration of the school. Leave that to the headmaster and staff." He encouraged them to foster good relationship between the community and school as well as teaching and non-teaching staff to enable them to know their problems to help them in developing and implementing relevant policies.
The Very Reverend Isaac Aidoo, Headmaster, expressed appreciation to the immediate past board of governors for their meritorious services. He said the school with a current population of 1,545 lacked a number of facilities needed to make teaching and learning comfortable. Rev. Aidoo mentioned staff bungalows, school bus, boarding facilities, a bigger assembly hall and the poor state of the road network as some of the challenges facing the school and expressed the hope that the board would fashion out policies which would address the school's needs. 27 June 07
