West Akyem District Assembly collects less revenue.

Asamankese (E/R), Jan 27, GNA- The West Akyem District Assembly had, as at November 30, 2003, locally generated 776,487,821 cedis as revenue against the estimated target of 1,233,108,510 cedis.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) Mr Umar Amoah, who announced this when addressing the District Assembly on Monday at Asamankese, noted that the 63 per cent achievement, fell short of the 80 per cent attained during the same period in 2002.

He announced that steps were however, being taken to improve the situation.

On expenditure, Mr Amoah said 715,581,800 cedis was spent as against the projection of 1,233,108,501 cedis.

The DCE said a total of over 6.2 billion cedis was received for development projects out of which 4.3 billion cedis came from the District Assembly Common Fund and one billion cedis came from the HIPC funds.

Mr Amoah said 50 per cent of revenue collected by the urban, town and area councils would be retained by the councils.
