Asiakwa (E/R), May 23, GNA - The West Akyem District branch of the Ghana Registered Nurses Association (GRNA) at the week-end presented a number of items valued at 2.5 million cedis and a 500,000 cedis cash to the Asiakwa SOS Children's Village in the Eastern Region as part of the Nurses Week celebration.

The items included rice, sugar, beverage, milk, biscuits, bread, soap and oranges.

Making the presentation, Miss Dina Gyamea Mantey, said they decided to contribute their "widow's mite" to cheer up the children. She said during its annual celebration, the nurses normally went on excursions but this year they decided to make the trip to Asiakwa to celebrate with the children.

Mama Regina Boafoa, a representative of the Village Mothers, who received the donation, expressed their profound appreciation to the nurses and hoped other individuals and organizations would follow their example.

Welcoming the nurses, the Director of the Village, Mr J. B. Nartey, called for assistance for the two SOS Children's Villages (the other one being at Tema) since their work and existence depended on benevolence. After the presentation the nurses, Mothers and Children of the village danced to music provided by a brass band that accompanied the nurses.
