The District Chief Executive for West Gonja, Hon. Saeed Muhazu Jibreal, has supported craftsmen in the district with working tools to enhance their work.
At a short ceremony held at the forecourt of the assembly Monday, the DCE presented welding machines and other accessories worth thousands of Ghana cedis to artisans and urged the beneficiaries to put the items into good use.
"Go and use the tools appropriately; there will be a day we will pay you a surprise visit to check whether you are putting them into good use or not and when it is realized that you are not handling them as agreed, we will simply pick the items and hand them over to others who need them," he cautioned.
He said the essence was to help the beneficiaries expand their working base, increase income levels and create avenues for more youth to be trained and equipped with skills for self-employment.
According to him, the support package was part of a comprehensive intervention by government to equip the youth with employable skills and the West Gonja District was lucky to be the first beneficiary of the intervention in the whole of the Northern region.
He disclosed that, there will be another support package in March for tailors, hairdressers.
The District Manager for the Business Resource Centre(BRC), Mr.Alidu Ewura said the main aim of the intervention was to fully equip the artisans to tell a good story when they are visited from time to time.
He encouraged them to work hard to tell a productive story when the team visits them.
Mr. Nurudeen, a beneficiary, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues commended the DCE and the assembly for the support.
He said the welding machines and accessories would go a long way to enhance their work.
He promised they were going to put the items into good use.
