Western Region records 4,726 millimetres of rainfall in June

Takoradi, Aug 23, GNA - The Western Region recorded 4,726 millimetres of rainfall in June, Mr David Perry Osika, the Western Regional Director of the Ghana Metrological Agency, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview.

He said the figure was based on data from 10 metrological stations in the region.

The stations are located at Takoradi, Axim, Agona Nkwanta, Aiyinasi, Benso, Elubo, Half Assini, Inchaban, Nkroful and Pretsea.

He said the Takoradi, Axim and Sefwi Bekwai Metrological stations, which are major stations, recorded 913.3 millimetres of rainfall in June.

Takoradi Station recorded 124.7 millimetres of rainfall on June 24 while Agona Nkwanta recorded 180 millimetres of rainfall on the same day.

He said 166.8 millimetres of rainfall was recorded at Axim on May 29 this year.

Mr. Osika said the rainfall pattern was better along the coast than in forest areas in June.

He said the highest ever rainfall recorded in a single day in Takoradi was 245 millimetres in June 18, 1964 while Axim recorded 510 millimetres of rainfall on June 11, 1965.

Mr. Osika said Sefwi Bekwai recorded 161.3 millimetres of rainfall on August 5, 1968 and Benso had 166.4 millimetres of rainfall on July 26, 1953.
