Widows in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality received a much-needed boost during the Christmas season, thanks to the Sametro Group of Companies' annual donation initiative.

This year, the event touched the lives of 200 widows, who were provided with food items, including bags of rice and bottles of cooking oil, worth GH¢120,000.

The initiative, inspired by the vision of the company's Founder and CEO, Dr. Samuel Gordon Etroo, is rooted in the biblical directive to “honor widows” (1 Timothy 5:3).

Dr. Etroo and the company’s General Manager, Dr. John Armstrong Etroo, emphasized that the gesture aims to bring love, hope, and support to widows who often face immense challenges in managing their households after the loss of their spouses.

Dr. Armstrong Etroo noted that the program was conceived as a way to provide widows with relief and show them that they are not forgotten, particularly during the festive season.

“This is a season of love, and we are doing this not just to give but to spread the goodness of God and share love with widows. It is also a testament to the fact that all hope is not lost and that there is a company, Sametro, which stands by them during this festive season,” he remarked.

The initiative has grown significantly over the years, starting with fewer than 50 beneficiaries and now supporting 200 widows.

Dr. Armstrong Etroo expressed optimism about expanding the program to include more widows and even extending it to other regions in Ghana in the future.

Fostering Spiritual and Emotional Support

In addition to the material support, the event also provided a platform for spiritual and emotional upliftment. Dr. Samuel Gordon Etroo delivered a heartfelt salvation message, encouraging the widows to find solace in God’s love.

He led them through an altar call, emphasizing the importance of faith and community bonding.

“This initiative is not just about giving material items but also about bringing widows together to foster spiritual growth and strengthen their sense of belonging,” he noted.

The widows expressed profound gratitude for the support, which many described as a lifeline during difficult times. Elizabeth Colerangle, speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, shared her struggles since losing her husband and how the donation provided much-needed relief and hope.

“We are truly grateful for this gesture. It has brought us joy and reminded us that we are not alone. May God bless and grant long life to Dr. Samuel Gordon Etroo for his continued support,” she said.

Transparent Selection Process

The initiative’s selection process ensures that the neediest widows are prioritized. Announcements are made on Space FM, a sister company of Sametro Group, detailing the criteria for participation. Widows above 50 years old and in need are given priority, with a thorough screening process to confirm eligibility.

Through initiatives like this, the company continues to strengthen its bond with the communities it serves, providing widows with more than just material items—they receive hope, love, and the assurance that they are not forgotten.
