Tepa (Ash), Dec 13, GNA - A wildfire club to help educate farmers to prevent bushfires was at the weekend inaugurated at Tepa Secondary School.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Kwabena Akyeampong Boakye of the Resource Management Support Centre of the Forestry Commission in Kumasi, charged members of the club to share their experience with other students who are not members of the club to sensitise the public on the dangers of bushfire. He said the inauguration of the club was timely as the dry season was approaching and called on the members not rest on their oars in educating farmers on the need preserve the forest.

Mr Emmanuel Donkor Bagyina, headmaster of the school, appealed to the district assembly, the Fire Service and the public to support the club with logistics to help in their sensitisation programme. He said the nation could not afford to lose huge human and financial resources invested in the re-forestation programme, as well as food and cash crop production, adding that, "when there is plenty to eat, there is peace and stability".
