Nana Oboosu the Second, Chief of Effutu Ateitu and the Winneba branch Chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), has been re-elected.
He polled 42 votes to beat his contestant, Mr John Amo who obtained 28 votes.
Nana Oboosu will steer the affairs of the Union for four years.
Other officers elected were Mr Kwame Gyasi, Vice Chairman, Mr Kofi Anaefi incumbent Secretary, Mr Emmanuel Essiffie incumbent First Trustee, and Mr Kyikie Atta incumbent Second Trustee.
The election was conducted by officers from the Central Regional Directorate of the Department of Labour, headed by Mr Ofori Kwansah and supervised by the Central Regional Executives of the GPRTU, led by Mr Kwame Kum, the Chairman.
Mr Kwansah, the Regional Labour Officer who led the officers to take the oath of office, advised them to discharge their duties in line with the labour laws to ensure sanity in the Union.
Mr Kum, also known as Kwame Nkrumah, the First Trustee of the National Headquarters of the GPRTU, advised the elected executives not to lord it over the members.
He said they should rather work together to foster unity of purpose in the industry, and work hard to better their lot.
He advised the members to bury their differences, and support the elected officers, so that with their rich expertise, they would render good services to the public.
The Regional Chairman urged drivers to strictly abide by the Road Transport and Safety Rules and Regulations to help reduce carnage on the roads.
Nana Oboosu, on behalf of the other executives, commended the members for their comportment and the successful conduction of the election.
He expressed gratitude to them for the confidence reposed in the officers, and pledged their readiness to work hard and foster unity, so that collectively, they could forge ahead in development.
Nana Oboosu said their doors were opened for fruitful ideas and suggestions to help them discharge their duties, to help improve the livelihood of the entire members.
