Winneba Prisons establishes ICT centre

The Winneba Local Prison as part of its measures to promote reformation and rehabilitation of inmates has established an ultra-modern information communication technology (ICT) centre to train inmates.

Chief Superintendent of Prison Augustine Bopam, Acting Officer In-charge of Winneba Local Prison said his outfit has put in place measures to provide education and basic skills to the inmates to enable them secure jobs or be self employed when they are discharged.

The Non-Formal Education Division of Ghana Education Service in Effutu Municipality also organises literacy classes for the inmates and has put in place para-legal and welfare unit to address the welfare related issues of the prisoners.

CSP Bopam, who made this known at a thanksgiving service organised by the Local Prison said this year a number of prisoners would be trained by the Winneba National Vocation Training Institute.

He said the inmates would also be registered with the National Health Insurance Scheme to promote their health care.

Rev Alex Addo of Presbyterian Church, Winneba, in a sermon asked the inmates to have faith in the Lord, saying, all is not lost.

Mrs Valentina Opoku of Amazing Grace Outreach donated quantity of items including fruits, soft drinks and T-shirts to the prison.
