Woman and son died later at Winneba Government hospital

Senya Beraku (C/R) Dec. 20 GNA Madam Abena Gyantoa, aged 23 and her three-month old son, Kwame Gyantoa died later on admission at the Winneba Government Hospital following injuries they sustained when a Toyota Haice on which they and some passengers were travelling from Winneba to Senya Beraku was involved in an accident on Sunday.

Mr. Nicholas Gasu, Winneba District Police Commander briefing the Ghana News Agency at Senya Beraku on Monday said the driver of the vehicle, Kwabena Impriam who was plying between Winneba and Senya Beraku claimed that on reaching Senya Beraku he had a brake failure and therefore, run into a nearby building resulting in most of the passengers on board sustaining various degrees of injuries.

He said three people were treated and discharged at the Senya Health Centre while the deceased persons and seven others who were seriously injured were sent to the Winneba hospital.

According to Mr. Gasu those on admission were responding to treatment, while the driver who escaped unhurt is helping the police in their investigations.

The Police commander appealed to drivers to avoid over-taking, speeding and over-loading and also maintain their vehicles to enable the district to record accident-free Christmas.
