Woman remanded for possessing Indian help

Nkoranza (B/A) March 9, GNA- A district court in Nkoranza has remanded Akosua Tewia, a 22-year-old woman from Ejura in Ashanti into prison custody for possessing dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. Chief Superintendent Augustine Webura told the court that the police acting upon a tip of arrested the suspect on Tuesday, March 2, whilst transporting the leaves from Nkoranza to Kumasi.

He said the police intercepted the vehicle near Akumsa-Domase on the Nkoranza-Techiman highway and escorted it to the Nkoranza Police Station where it was found that there were dried leaves on the vehicle. The prosecutor said all the passengers denied ownership but Akosua Tewia was picked as a suspect.

She will re-appear before the court on March 16. The dried leaves have meanwhile been sent to the Forensic Laboratory in Accra for examination.
