Bolgatanga, Jan. 13, GNA - Representatives of women groups in the Upper East Region on Thursday began a capacity building workshop in Bolgatanga, the regional capital, to enhance their management and leadership skills.

The three-day workshop, attended by 43 participants, covered topics like: "House Keeping", "Gender and Development", and "Gender and Poverty."

Opening it, Mr. David Bakari, Regional Coordinating Director, noted that improving the livelihood of women would help in the development society.

Madam Agnes Atayilla, Presiding Member of the Municipal Assembly, called on women to take the initiative seriously to promote development. "You should aim at fighting poverty, for in doing so, you would be fighting malnutrition and illiteracy', Madam Atayilla said. The Global-Community Development and Advocacy Center organised the workshop.

It was aimed at meeting the needs of rural women for self-improvement, and the development of practical initiatives.
