Women urged to lead crusade in environmental cleanliness

Tamale, May 11, GNA- Mr. Moses Mabengba, Deputy Northern Regional Minster, has called on women to lead the crusade in keeping their surroundings and communities clean. He urged them to mobilise their communities to periodically embark on clean-up exercises to tidy their surroundings to prevent diseases associated with insanitary environment.

Mr. Mabengba made the call when he addressed a group of women who had undertaken a clean-up in some parts of the Tamale Metropolis at the weekend to mark this year's "Mothers Day". The Department of Women under the Ministry of Women and Children's Affairs organised the exercise, which was on the theme: "Women and men united to end violence against women and girls". Women organizations from the churches, Vodafone and Zoomlion participated in the over three-hours clean-up.

Mr. Mabengba also urged women to take proper care of their children and ensure that they lived disciplined lives so that they would grow up to become responsible citizens in the future. Mr. Patrick Zakaria-Saa, the Regional Director of the Department of Women, said the Department was in the process of compiling a brochure on some of the outstanding women in society to serve as an inspiration to other women to aspire to greater heights. He commended the women for coming out in their numbers for the exercise and urged them to keep it up.
