Techiman(B/A), March 15, GNA - Work would soon begin on a 2.4 billion cedis three-storey building for 80 stores at Tamale station in Techiman.
Techiman Zonal Council is undertaking the project under a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) system. Mr Davis Boamah Asumadu, Chairman of the Council, speaking at a sod-cutting ceremony for work to begin at Techiman on Monday, appealed to the Techiman Municipal Assembly to support the Council to complete the project on schedule.
He said the project was the second under the BOOT system after the Techiman Zongo Market undertaken by the Council.
Mr Asumadu appealed to the Techiman Traditional Council and the assembly to consider the geographical position of the municipality coupled with its fast growth and provide more land for expansion to boost economic activities and estate housing projects.
Mr Asumadu also appealed to the Municipal Police Command to establish a Police Post at the Techiman Central Market to help curb crime wave.
Oseadeeyo Akumfi Ameyaw, Omanhene of Techiman Traditional Area, asked traders who had unauthorised structures at the site to exercise patience and cooperate with the council to ensure successful completion of the project.
He gave the assurance that the traditional council would offer the needed assistance to complete the project on schedule to promote brisk commercial activities within the municipality.
Mr Prince Yaw Donyinah, the Techiman Municipal Chief Executive called on chiefs at Techiman Zongo to cooperate with the council to ensure early completion of the project.
